Animal Removal & Exclusion

Animal Removal & Exclusion

Chimneys are naturally attractive to wildlife — they're warm, dark, protected from predators, and often left with no cap or a rusted-out cap that offers no real barrier. Common Charlotte chimney invaders include chimney swifts (a federally protected migratory bird), raccoons, squirrels, and starlings, all of which can create serious problems ranging from foul odors and parasites to complete flue blockages that cause dangerous carbon monoxide backdrafting when the fireplace is operated.

Robert's Chimney Service approaches animal situations carefully and legally. We inspect the flue to determine the species present, whether nesting is active (chimney swifts, for example, are federally protected and cannot be removed during nesting season), and the location and extent of any nest material blocking the flue. Once removal is safe and legal, we extract nest debris, treat for any associated mites or insects, and perform a thorough cleaning before sealing the entry point.

Exclusion — preventing re-entry — is equally important and includes installing a heavy-gauge stainless steel chimney cap with a welded mesh animal guard. Without a proper cap, you'll be dealing with the same problem the following season. If you hear scratching, chirping, or smell unusual odors from your fireplace, don't light a fire — call +1 (980) 480-4169 immediately so we can safely assess the situation.
